A Journey Back In Time In The Walled City Of Lahore

The historic city of Lahore is a well known tourist destination of Pakistan. Most of the great towns including Lahore which was ruled by Mughal rulers boast a walled city within. The walled city of Lahore came to prominence during the reign of Emperor Akbar. It was enclosed by a nine-metre high brick wall with 13 gates made of wood and iron. Till the 19th century, the gates were still there. During British regime most of the gates were demolished or felled except the Roshnai Gate. In the course of time all of them were rebuilt but sadly only six continue to exist.

Six preserved gates include Raushnai Gate, Kashmiri Gate, Dehli Gate, Bhatti Gate, Lahori Gate, Khizri or the Sheranwala Gate.
